Dr Sue Brechin, MBChB, FRCOG, MD, FFSRH, FHEA, MIPM, ILM
Consultant in Community Gynaecology, Sexual and Reproductive Health

  Dr Sue Brechin
After graduating from Aberdeen University in 1992 Sue worked in Fortwilliam, Inverness and Elgin before moving to Glasgow in 1994 where she remained until 2003. She completed her Specialist Training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (West of Scotland) with subspecialty accreditation in Community Gynaecology, Sexual & Reproductive Health (Sandyford Glasgow) in 2003. As a trainee she was on the editorial team of the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare.

She completed a MD in Edinburgh between 1998 and 2000 on the Mechanism and Management of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding and continues to be involved in local and national research. In 2003 she returned to Aberdeen to take up the position of Senior Clinical Lecturer in Sexual Health for Aberdeen University. During this time she was also the Co-ordinator, then Director of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health’s first Clinical Effectiveness Unit (CEU). During her six years in this role she worked to deliver the on-line evidence based Clinical Enquiry Service which still supports clinicians to deliver evidence-based women's health today. A number of evidence based guidance documents, a text book on all areas of clinical practice in Sexual Health and the first UK version of the World Health Organisations’ Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive use were first published during her time as Director.

She is currently a Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health (NHS Grampian) and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer (Aberdeen University). She is Clinical Lead for Sexual Health for the Grampian Sexual Health & Blood Borne Virus Managed Care Network. She continues to have Lead roles in Training and Education in Sexual Health in Grampian and in Continuous Service Improvement in her clinical role.

Her areas of interest include: menstrual problems; the holistic care of women with premenstrual syndrome; care of women in the perimenopause; assessment of pelvic pain; and sexual problem. She continues to support the provision of evidence-based safe and effective patient-centred care, tailored to meet the needs of individual women and delivered where possible in community settings.
